If there is one marathon that runners across the country look forward to, it has to be the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon conducted by Procam International. Inspired by the London Marathon, this event was initiated back in 2004 and has since then been luring participants from all walks of life, including Bollywood celebrities, sports personalities, business tycoons and International athletes. This IAAF Gold labeled road race is held on the third Sunday of January every year. The event is the richest race in India with a prize pool of USD $350,000.

SCMM offers six race categories: full marathon (26.218 miles (42.194 km), half marathon (21.097 km), Dream Run (6 km), Senior Citizens Race (4.3 km), Champions with Disability category (2.4 km) and DHL Corporate Champions (42.195 km, 4-person relay).

This year the Full Marathon offers 5,000 running places, while 15,000 places will be available for the Half Marathon. The Dream Run will have nearly 20,200 participants. In keeping with its inclusive approach, 1200 entries will be permitted in the Senior Citizens’ Run and 300 entries for the Champions with Disability Event, putting the total number of entries at 41,700.

Eventjini made its entry into the world of marathons three years ago. We are quite kicked about being a part of SCMM for the second year. We handle the entire online registrations for this event. One point worthy of mention about the event is that it has probably the largest registration forms amongst all events, running to nearly 40 fields taking about an average of 15 minutes to fill. But this year Eventjini made some key changes to the process.

Having been in this industry for a few years now, Eventjini has understood the key requirement for one of Asia’s largest marathons and has set up a system that is simple and allows multiple users to register without the server slowing down or crashing at any given point of time. The main objective was to give runners a memorable experience during registration, which is a crucial element of any running event.

Eventjini’s Tech team worked wonders by setting up High availability server clusters that are scalable according to the load requirements. With this setup, Eventjini handled about 3000 applications in the first 2 hours of opening registrations for the half marathon category. The application form was also streamlined to ensure a smooth and intuitive experience for the applicant.

Extensive testing and study of the registration process was done to build a registration website for the SCMM that is seamless, and intuitive. Further, repeat applicants and regular runners had their data prepopulated in the application form shaving off several seconds from each page of the process. This has resulted in a runner needing less than 2 minutes to complete the application for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017.

With the event just a few months away, it has been an interesting journey, and we look forward to making it all the way to the finish line in style.
