Chennai‘s fitness scene is really catching up! We have around 50+ runs happening round the year, which basically means on an average there is at least 1 marathon every week. Now we have no excuses!
These are some of the runs that cannot be missed in Chennai
- The Wipro Chennai Marathon
TWCM is a three-year old road race held in December of every year, in Chennai. The partnership between technology giant Wipro, and passionate running group, the Chennai Runners, has been a fruitful one, with the event growing in scale and sophistication every year. During TWCM 2014, more than 16000 runners participated in the three run categories – 10Kms, Half Marathon and Full Marathon. TWCM is one of the biggest running events in the country today, and enjoys pride of place in the yearly marathon calendars of many.
- Dream Runners half marathon
Dream Runners Half Marathon (DRHM) is one of the Top-10 Must Run events in India held in July. (As per the runner’s survey done by Mumbai Road Runners group). Dream Runners is a group of passionate runners conduct their annual flagship event DRHM for the past 3 years successfully.
- Cool runner’s half marathon
The Cool Runners Half-marathon has a wonderful atmosphere, a fast flat course offering beautiful views of tree lined city roads and across some iconic landmarks that our wonderful city has to offer! This is no ordinary half-marathon. It is a unique, bespoke, family event with the option of a half marathon and 10km run held in January.
- Marina Runners marathon
A great Running event alongside the beach, Marina Runnerz Marathon is into its 2nd year. The maiden event was a true runaway success and MRM 17 is definitely going to be a better one. Race Distances of 5K, 10K and 21.1 kms ( Half Marathon) make this a great event to participate in.
- Dusk to Dawn
The ‘Dusk to Dawn Chennai Night Marathon 2015′ will be held on Saturday, 11th June 2016. D2D Team and Round Table India along with Area 2 will be conducting the Dusk to Dawn Chennai Night Marathon this year. D2D is an initiative that has inspired many to run/cycle for a cause. They have 4 race categories -3K, 5K, 10K and 21K.
- Chennai trail marathon
The Chennai Trekking Club (CTC) is a volunteer based, non-profit outdoor group. With 21 thousand members and hundreds of outdoor and sports events organized throughout the year it’s one of the largest and most active groups in South India. Weekly events include trekking, cycling, biking, running and triathlons. The fourth edition of the Chennai Trail Marathon organized by the Chennai Trekking Club sets itself apart from the typical city marathon in several unique aspects.
- Terry fox run
The Terry Fox Run Chennai is an annual event that promotes the cause of cancer research through a non-motorized sporting activity like running, walking or cycling. This event is anchored by Rotary Club of Madras East.
The Pinkathon is India’s Biggest Women’s Run, founded by Mr. Milind Soman and Ms. Reema Sanghavi, organised by the United Sisters Foundation and created with the specific purpose of getting more and more women to adopt a fitter lifestyle. This event is held in June.
- Puma urban stampede
Team Runners for Life is a young, fit group of people ranging from runners, swimmers, rugby players, shooters, cyclists, ultimate Frisbee players, footballers, high-jumpers etc. This team has organized over 30 events in the last 8 years and have unparalleled running event expertise. The Puma Urban Stampede is conducted in the month of October.
- Kanchipuram half marathon
The ‘Kanchipuram Half Marathon’ has a wonderful atmosphere, a flat course offering the beautiful forest area with some mountains that our wonderful route has to offer! Events for 10kms and 21.1kms are conducted and to encourage the existing running community and to bring more awareness to the public about running and its benefit and the force behind the Kanchipuram Half Marathon have been working non-stop to ensure that the running event is a memorable one .The Kanchipuram half Marathon brings together people from various walks of life from across the country to help spread awareness and social cause to develop and serve the villages for their rehabilitation which we have been serving for last 6 months and the children to be supported representing state and nationals. This is happening on 17th July 2016.
